Twitch Adds Support for FaceTime’s SharePlay Feature in iOS App

Game streaming giant Twitch on Tuesday announced that it has added support for iOS 15’s SharePlay FaceTime feature, which will allow iPhone and iPad users to view Twitch streams with friends and family via FaceTime.

As reported by Engadget, Twitch has added a dedicated SharePlay FAQ to its site explaining the feature.

Starting a SharePlay session

To use SharePlay, you must be in an active FaceTime call and participants must have the Twitch app installed.

  1. Once in a call, open the Twitch app and play a stream you would like to watch together.
  2. For your first SharePlay session, FaceTime will ask you if you would like to play the stream for just you or for everyone in the call. It will remember your selection thereafter.
  3. Choose to play it for everyone and Twitch will open the stream on everyone’s device and playback will begin syncing between all participants’ devices.
  4. While watching together with SharePlay, all participating callers will be kept in sync at the same point in the stream. Controls that affect stream playback, such as pause and play, will also sync.

SharePlay for Twitch requires an iOS device running iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1. Unfortunately, there is no integration for the Twitch Apple TV app.
