Dropbox on Tuesday told its users that those who update to macOS 12.3 when that version of the macOS operating system becomes available may experience temporary issues in opening online-only files in some third-party apps on their Mac.
Dropbox published a support document and sent an email to customers telling them that it is working on full support for online-only files on macOS 12.3 and will begin rolling out an updated version of the Dropbox Mac app to beta testers in March. Until then, Dropbox users who update to macOS 12.3 will still be able to open online-only files in Finder.
Microsoft recently announced that macOS 12.2 will be the last version that supports its own cloud storage service OneDrive’s current online-only files implementation. The Redmond firm said OneDrive will be getting a revamped online-only files experience that is “more integrated with macOS.”
Apple has likely given advance notice to cloud storage services like Dropbox and OneDrive about system-level changes that will affect online-only files starting with macOS 12.3.
We will likely see a release of macOS 12.2 within the next week or so, with beta testing of macOS 12.3 beginning shortly after that.
