Apple Releases watchOS 9.5.2 With Security Fixes for Actively Exploited Vulnerabilities

Apple today released watchOS 9.5.2, a bug fix update for the Apple Watch.

watchOS 9.5.2 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to “General” -> “Software Update.” The Apple Watch needs to have at least a 50% battery charge, needs to be on a charger, and needs to be in the range of the ‌‌iPhone‌‌.

According to Apple’s release notes for the update, it includes important security fixes all users are urged to download the software.

Kernel

Available for: Apple Watch Series 4 and later

Impact: An app may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.7.

Description: An integer overflow was addressed with improved input validation.

Apple has also released watchOS 8.8.1 for those with Apple Watches unable to upgrade to watchOS 9.
