Apple doesn’t plan to release a third-generation Apple Watch SE in 2023, staying on a two-year upgrade cycle, says Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter. If Gurman is correct, that means we can expect to see the third-generation wearable debut in September 2024.
This means the current second-gen Apple Watch SE still has a year remaining in its lifecycle, making it a safe purchase for customers. Previous generations of the Apple Watch SE debuted in September 2020 and September 2022.
Apple Watch SE pricing starts at $249, making it the most affordable Apple Watch. The low-end Apple Watch lacks some of the features of the higher-end Apple Watch models, including the ECG app, Blood Oxygen app, an always-on display, and wrist temperature tracking. The SE also sports thicker bezels and smaller case size options than the Apple Watch Series 7 and newer models.
Gurman says new Apple Watch models will launch this year. This year’s lineup will include the Apple Watch Series 9 in two sizes, as well as a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra.
Gurman also says Apple tested a dark titanium color option for the Apple Watch Ultra last year but decided not to release it.
