Apple Releases watchOS 9.6.1 to Public – Brings API Access Fix for Apps

Apple on Tuesday released watchOS 9.6.1, a minor bug fix update for the Apple Watch. The free watchOS 9.6.1 software update comes two weeks after the launch of watchOS 9.6, which was another bug-fix update.

watchOS 9.6 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to “General” -> “Software Update.” The Apple Watch needs to have at least a 50% battery charge, needs to be on a charger, and needs to be in the range of the ‌‌iPhone‌‌.

Apple says the update includes a fix for an issue that prevented access to motion data for apps that use the Movement Disorder API to track tremors and symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.

We likely won’t see many more updates to the watchOS 9 operating system, as watchOS 10 is currently in beta testing and will likely be released to the public in the fall.
