Foxconn Starts iPhone 15 Production in India Prior to September Debut for First Time Ever

Apple’s main iPhone supplier Foxconn is firing up production of the iPhone 15 in India, marking the first time ever that a new iPhone model has been manufactured outside of China before it publicly debuts, says a Bloomberg report.

This is the first time that the mass production of a new ‌iPhone‌ model has begun in India before it has been announced by Apple. Last year, production of ‌iPhone 14‌ models started in India in late September.

The devices are being manufactured at Foxconn’s plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The facility is preparing to deliver devices just weeks after they begin shipping from factories in China. Previously, iPhones made in India lagged behind production in China by around six to nine months.

Pegatron and Wistron factories are also due to soon begin assembling the ‌iPhone 15‌.

In related news, DigiTimes reports that Foxconn is planning to manufacture AirPods in India by the end of 2024 at its Hyderabad, Telangana facility.

Apple continues to move moves to diversify its device supply chain away from being centered on China. Apple is said to be planning to produce 25% of its iPhones in India as soon as 2025.
