tvOS 17 Beta 5 Code Includes Information About Four Unreleased iPhones

The latest tvOS 17 beta (#5) includes references to four unreleased iPhone models. The references, found by @aaronp13, appear to confirm the chips that will be used in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro devices.

The references to identifiers include iPhone models called iPhone15,4, iPhone15,5, iPhone16,1, and iPhone16,2. The numbering jibe with rumors that Apple is planning to use the 3nm A17 chip for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will use the same A16 chip currently used in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple uses the “15” to denote devices with the A16 chip. As an example, the iPhone 14 and ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus are referred to as iPhone14,7 and iPhone14,8 as they are powered by the A15.

There are also references to an iPhone14,1 and an ‌iPhone 14‌,9, devices, which would have an A15 chip. The iPhone14,1 reference is rather odd, as Apple has already used the ‌iPhone 14‌,2 through ‌iPhone 14‌,8 identifiers.

While there have been numerous rumors about the chips the new iPhones will use, we won’t know anything for sure until Apple unveils the new iPhone 15 lineup in September. Apple is likely to hold its annual iPhone event on Tuesday, September 12. That means pre-orders for the new iPhones should go live a few days later on Friday, September 15, and the new iPhones will likely hit store shelves one week later on September 22.
