Warner Bros. last week announced that it had canceled its upcoming “Coyote Vs. Acme” animated feature. However, after facing significant backlash for the decision, it is preparing to screen the film for Apple and other streamers with an eye toward possible acquisition of the film.
Warner Bros. had initially planned a theatrical release for the animated feature, however, it unexpectedly canceled the film, even though it was finished. WB had canceled other projects, including “Batgirl” and “Scoob Holiday Haunt.” However, those films were still in production.
A report from Deadline says Amazon Prime appears to be a leading contender for acquiring the film. Courtenay Valenti, who is currently at Amazon Studios and MGM, had previously been involved in pre-production for the movie during her tenure at Warner Bros.
The Warner Bros. announcement that it was shelving “Coyote Vs. Acme” led to negative reactions from the film community.
Facing financial pressures, the studio has been reassessing its approach to content distribution, preferring to sell content to streaming platforms instead of pursuing traditional theatrical releases.
