A report from ET News today provides details on the future of the iPad lineup. A new iPad Pro, a new iPad mini boasting a larger screen, and new 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Air models, all of which will sport new OLED displays.
The ET News report lays out the iPad lineup’s gradual switch to OLED.
- 2024: New 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with OLED and ProMotion
- 2026: New iPad mini with a larger 8.7-inch display and OLED
- 2026: New 10.9-inch iPad Air with OLED
- 2027: New 12.9-inch iPad Air with OLED
The iPad Air is currently only available with a 10.9-inch screen. The 12.9-inch iPad Air is expected to hit shelves with an LCD screen in 2024. In 2027 it will gain an OLED screen. The iPad mini currently sports an 8.3-inch LCD screen. Today’s report suggests that the iPad mini will get a larger 8.7-inch OLED display in 2026.
Apple is expected to update the iPad mini with an improved LCD screen and a more powerful processor. The new LCD display will reportedly fix the iPad mini’s much-reported “jelly scrolling” issues.
The OLED displays used for the iPad Pro will feature an LTPO panel, enabling ProMotion with up to 120Hz refresh rates. Meanwhile, the OLED displays to be used for the other iPad models will use LTPS panels, which have a maximum 60Hz refresh rate.
The report also mentions a bit of info about the OLED displays to be used in the MacBook lineup:
- 2025: 16-inch MacBook Pro with OLED
- 2026: 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with OLED
- 2026: 14-inch MacBook Pro with OLED
