Threads on the Way to the European Union in December

Meta is planning to launch its Threads social media network in the European Union next month, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

While Threads debuted in most regions back in July, it did not launch in the EU, due to concerns by Meta as the whether it would be able to adhere to the EU’s tough regulations for online services. Threads can import data from Instagram, including behavioral and advertising information.

WSJ’s sources tell it that Meta will comply with EU regulations by giving users in the Union the choice of using Threads solely for consumption, selecting a profile that will not allow them to create their own posts.

Threads’ user numbers should receive a nice bump once the app debuts in the EU. The service has “just under” 100 million users, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said last month.
