New ‘6A324’ Firmware Now Available for AirPods Max

Apple has released new firmware for its AirPods Max high-end over-the-ear headphones. The new firmware, designated “6A324,” is up from the 6A300 firmware released in September.

Apple never provides details about what is included in new firmware updates, so it isn’t known for sure what bug fixes or improvements the new firmware might include. However, the update may address the issues some AirPods Max users are reporting with battery life.

There isn’t any way to manually update the firmware of the earbuds, and the new software will be automatically installed over the air while the AirPods Max is connected to an iOS device.

Here’s how to check the firmware version of your AirPods Max earbuds:

  1. Make sure your Airpods Max are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or ‌iPad‌.
  3. Tap “General.”
  4. Tap “About.”
  5. Scroll down to ‌“AirPods,” and tap that.
  6. The current firmware version number is listed under “Firmware Version.” If the AirPods Max have been updated, they’ll show as version “6A324.”
