Apple today released its first visionOS 1.1 beta which fixes an issue we discussed this morning, as it appears to include a new hardware-based option to reset the Vision Pro. This will allow the device to be wiped clean and be set up anew if the user forgets their passcode without the need for a visit to an Apple retail store.
The Vision Pro requests a six-digit passcode during setup, requiring it to be entered twice. Customers can also opt to use a shorter or a longer passcode, much like they can on an iPhone or iPad. While Optic ID can be used to unlock the device in place of a passcode, the passcode is still required after a restart or in certain other situations.
Currently, customers who forget their Vision Pro passcode are being told by Apple that they will need to visit an Apple Store to get it reset or ship it to Apple if the user doesn’t have a nearby store. Like Apple’s other devices, the incorrect passcode can only be entered a certain number of times before the device is locked. Removing the passcode requires a total reset of the Vision Pro.
According to 9to5Mac, there is code in the visionOS 1.1 beta that allows the Vision Pro to be erased without the need for a visit to an Apple retail location.

This Apple Vision Pro is in security lockout. You can wait and try your passcode again, or you can erase and reset this Apple Vision Pro now.
While resetting the Vision Pro will wipe all content from the device, Activation Lock, will not allow the headset to be used by anyone except for the original owner with the Apple ID password used to set it up. Once the device has been wiped, it can be set up anew with a new passcode.
