Apple May Still Face Trademark Issues in China Over Vision Pro Moniker

Apple may still face trademark issues when it launches its Vision Pro headset in China. Chinese tech firm Huawei registered the “Vision Pro” name in China in 2021.

As reported by South China Morning Post, Huawei’s registration covers a wide array of goods and services, including virtual reality headsets and wearable video displays. Huawei effectively has exclusive rights to the “Vision Pro” name in China until November 2031.

According to the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), Apple’s application for the trademark rights to “Vision Pro” is currently in a state of “refusal to re-examine.”

Apple also applied to trademark the brand name “Apple Vision Pro” in June 2023, and this application is still under review. All of this leaves the Cupertino firm’s branding strategy for the product in China up in the air.

Huawei debuted its “Vision Glass” smart eyewear in December 2022. The company’s Vision brand also includes a range of smart TVs. Huawei has been rumored to be preparing to launch its own AR/VR headset.
