Bloomberg’s Gurman: Don’t Expect Apple Event Launching New Macs, iPads, Accessories

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that while Apple will likely announce that new Mac, iPad, Apple Pencil, and Magic Keyboard updates are coming, but there won’t be a media event. Instead, Apple will announce the new products online.

Apple has quite a few new products queued up, including revamped iPad Pro models, a new iPad Air with a 12.9-inch display, and new versions of the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard for high-end iPads. As for Macs, we can expect to see new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs with the faster M3 chip.

Gurman says all of these new products are in production overseas, and Apple’s marketing teams are preparing to announce them relatively soon.

That’s a lot of stuff, and I consider all the new products to be fairly significant. Let’s not forget this list includes the first revamp to the iPad Pro in nearly six years, the first iPad with an OLED screen and the first mid-tier tablet to get a 12.9-inch display size. The Magic Keyboard is also getting its first revamp. And the MacBook Air — Apple’s most popular computer — is gaining a 3-nanometer chip. That’s a lot of firsts and a lot of things Apple would normally use a full-blown event to highlight.

But, no such event has been scheduled, says Gurman. Instead, Apple will announce the new products on its website, via a series of online videos and marketing campaigns.

Gurman also says that he’s been told that a special version of iOS 17.4 with support for the new hardware is scheduled for the end of the month. So he expects to see the devices arrive in stores sometime in March or April.
