AirPlay Now Available in Select Hotels & Resorts

Apple today announced that iPhone and iPad users may now use AirPlay to wirelessly stream videos, music, and photos from their device to their hotel room TV at select IHG Hotels & Resorts properties in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Properties include select Holiday Inn, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, Atwell Suites, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Avid locations, and others.

IHG has made AirPlay available at more than 60 hotels so far, and additional hotels will support the feature in the coming months.

Users can automatically connect to the compatible LG hotel TV in their guest room and the hotel’s Wi-Fi network by scanning a unique QR code on the screen. Once connected, guests can share almost anything on the big screen in their hotel room directly from their iPhone or iPad. Guests can also pair multiple devices to the TV, so friends and loved ones traveling together can also enjoy.

Each QR code is unique to the hotel room and ensures that content is available only to the user — meaning anything guests share to the hotel TV stays personal and private. When they check out, their connection to the TV is erased, so future guests and hotel staff can’t access the user’s activity.

iPhones and iPads must be updated to iOS 17.3 or iPadOS 17.3 or later, respectively.

AirPlay on hotel room TVs works with Apple TV+ and Apple Music, as well as Apple Arcade for gaming and Apple Fitness+ for workouts.

The privacy and security of guests are protected, as when a guest checks out of the hotel, their connection to the TV is erased, preventing future guests and hotel staff from accessing the user’s activity.

Apple first announced this feature at WWDC 2023 last June, in partnership with LG. Apple said at that time that it was partnering with select hotel chains to bring ‌AirPlay‌ to supported television sets.
