Apple to Launch Dedicated Gaming App Alongside iOS 19

Apple is working on a standalone app for games, which will be pre-installed in iOS 19, iPadOS 19, macOS 16, and tvOS 19, reports Bloomberg.

The app will allow users to launch games, while also offering tracking of in-game achievements and leaderboards, communications features, and editorial content. The app will be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference that kicks off on June 9.

The app will replace Apple’s Game Center, which has long offered the ability for users to invite friends to play mobile games anf track their achievements. While the new app will include Apple Arcade, it will also include third-party games.

The app sounds like it will make it easier for customers to find and download games on their Apple devices. The Mac version of the app will also tap into games downloaded outside of the Mac App Store.

A spokesperson for Cupertino, California-based Apple declined to comment. 9to5Mac had reported last year that the company was working on a new games app for a future software update.

The gaming app will roll out to iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs in September when the device’s new operating systems are released to the public.
