Under-Screen Face ID Once Again Rumored for iPhone 18 Pro Models

While it’s true that we don’t even know for sure what new features the iPhone 17 Pro lineup will bring, it’s never too early to start taking a look at iPhone 18 Pro rumors, right? Right? Well, we’re going to do it anyway.

Counterpoint Research vice president Ross Young, who has a respectible track record when it comes to display-related information for Apple products, posted on social media on Tuesday. The post included information that indicates Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro models will use an under-screen Face ID system.

“At the SID Business Conference today, OTI Lumionics CEO Michael Helander confirmed that they expect phones with under panel Face ID using their materials to be available for sale in 2026,” wrote Young. “This suggests that iPhone 18 Pro models will have under panel Face ID with other brands and models to follow.”

Young’s post jibes with The Information‘s Wayne Ma, who earlier this month reported that iPhone 18 Pro models will feature under-screen Face ID. Ma said the devices will sport only a small hole in the top-left corner of the screen, designed to accommodate the front-facing camera. The report indicated that the handsets will no longer have a pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen, although we don’t know if that means the end of the iPhone’s Dynamic Island feature.

Apple should unveil the new iPhone 18 Pro models in September 2026.
