Apple’s upcoming tvOS 26 software update will still be compatible with all of the Apple TV model that worked with tvOS 18, according to a private X account with a good track record for such things.
As reported by MacRumors, tvOS 26 will be compatible with the following Apple TV models:
- Apple TV HD (2015)
- Apple TV 4K (1st generation, 2017)
- Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, 2021)
- Apple TV 4K (3rd generation, 2022)
As we recently reported, Apple is changing the naming convention for all of its software updates, meaning instead of calling the upcoming update tvOS 19, the update will likely instead be called tvOS 26. The new software will likely be released alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, and HomePod Software 26, all of which will receive a similar rebranding.
The rumored visionOS-inspired design coming to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS will also likely make an appearance on tvOS. The interface is expected to boast a visionOS-like interface with translucent elements, floating menus and windows, and softer, rounded visuals. The design will also offer a glass-like effect, as seen in Apple’s WWDC promotional imagery.
Apple will preview tvOS 26 and its other software updates at WWDC25, which kicks off on Monday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, with the traditional keynote address.
