HomePod Software 26 to Continue to Support Original HomePod

Apple’s upcoming HomePod Software 26 will offer support for the original HomePod, says a private account on X that has a good track record for software update rumors.

The fact that the upcoming HomePod Software will still support the eight-year-old OG HomePod is actually impressive. Most devices don’t enjoy such a long life when it comes to updates.

We don’t know for sure what, if any new features the HomePod software update will bring, but improvements to Siri are hopefully in store.

As we recently reported, Apple is changing the naming convention for all of its software updates, meaning instead of calling the upcoming update HomePod Software 19, the update will likely instead be called HomePod Software 26. The new software will likely be released alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, and tvOS 26.

Apple is expected to expand the HomePod family in 2025 or 2026, as it is expected to release its long-rumored smart home hub during that timeframe. Recent trademarking activity indicates Apple could provide a peek at the home hub at WWDC25, which kicks off on Monday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, with the traditional keynote address, where it unveils the upcoming software updates. Apple also ocassionally surprises atendees with a hardware unveiling, but its not something that happens often.
