Apple is expected to unveil its new smart home hub, an upgraded Apple TV 4K set-top box and an upgraded HomePod mini at a media event on Tuesday, October 13. Although Apple traditionally send out media invites at least a week or so ahead of its events, we have yet to see any reports of such invites being received. This makes it look more and more like the unveiling of the new products will be via a video event.
No matter how the new products debut, the latest tvOS 27.2 beta that was released earlier this week contains some indications about just what we can expect from the new fourth-generation Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini.
We have long expected that any new Apple TV 4K set-top box to be powered by an A19 chip, which can handle Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. The latest tvOS code now includes all the usual privacy disclosures and other notes about opting in to features like Siri and Dictation and Siri data sharing. None of those features are available on the current Apple TV hardware.
According to MacRumors, tvOS 27.2 also includes a new Siri Messages UI framework, suggesting that message content could be displayed on the Apple TV, and that Siri may be able to read messages sent to a linked iPhone and show smart reply options on the Apple TV.
Aaron Perris has discovered additional code references, pointing to new interactions in iOS 27.2 that could allow nearby home accessories to show controls in the iPhone’s Dynamic Island using HomeKit’s proximity manager frameworks.
iOS 27.2 beta 3 includes new HomeKit code suggesting nearby smart-home accessories could show controls in the Dynamic Island.
A new method explicitly references showing Dynamic Island controls through HomeKit’s proximity manager.

Details of the new Apple TV 4K haven’t been released as yet, so they are left to speculation. As pointed out by iDropNews, we don’t as yet know whether the new set-top box will be equipped with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM. An A19-powered Apple TV 4K would only have 8 GB of RAM, while the A19 Pro used in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup can handle 12GB of RAM. The more RAM, the better the Siri AI feature set support.
The new HomePod mini is expected to stick with being powered by an Apple Watch chip. The current HomePod mini is powered by the 2019-era S5 chip that debuted in the Apple Watch Series 5. Many observers expect the new smart speaker to get the S9 chip. This could lead to the new HomePod mini relying on the new Apple TV 4K or Apple’s new smart home hub for AI tasks, in much the same way the Apple Watch relies on the iPhone.
Leaker pdfu has found additional code that back the rumors of a new quad-HomePod Home Theater setup, as the code includes references to automatically matching speakers to a surround system, a new method for passing Siri requests to an Apple TV, and a new light animation that rejects touch events while Siri AI is thinking.
Four-HomePod surround is almost here, and Apple is adding more capabilities to its Home software.

Perris also doscovered new SF Symbols in the third beta of macOS 27.2 that include visual depictions of four speakers in “whole room” and “home theater” groups.

As is usual for rumors like this, take this information with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning, as we won’t know anything for sure until Apple unveils their new products.
