Well-Known Chinese Leaker Claims Touchscreen MacBook ‘100% Confirmed’

Well-known Chinese leaker Instant Digital says Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook is “100% confirmed.” The leaker’s comments came in a Weibo post from this morning. The leaker has a good track record when it comes to Apple rumors like this.

Instant Digital’s claim is also backed by several reports going back as long as a few years. In January 2023Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman claimed that a MacBook Pro with an OLED display would be the first touchscreen Mac. while he said that the machine would be released in 2025, that year came and went without a release.

Since then, Gurman has repeatedly stated that that the next 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will have touchscreen and are slated to launch in late 2026 to early 2027.

In September 2025, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple would begin mass production of the first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro in 2026. However, 2027 may be a more likely target date, due to the global memory chip shortage.

The first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen will reportedly have the usual laptop design, including a trackpad and a keyboard. However, the display would provide touchscreen input like that offered by an iPhone or iPad.

The first touchscreen Macs are likely to use macOS, as Apple is not actively working to combine iPadOS and macOS, according to the report.

It should be noted that macOS 27 Golden Gate, which was previewed earlier this week, offers a more touch-friendly interface, with its Sidecar feature now allowing users to interact with macOS interface elements using a finger on their iPad.

If Apple did debut a touchscreen Mac, the Cupertino firm would be reversing a long-held opposition to the idea of touchscreens on the Mac that stretches back to at least 2010, when late Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that “touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical” due to arm fatigue associated with holding up a finger to the screen.
