Apple today seeded the first beta of its upcoming iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 updates to developers for testing. The new beta comes just two days after the iOS 27 launch to the public.
Registered developers can download the new beta software in the Software Update section of the Settings app. Just go to: “General” -> “Software Update” and select the iOS 27 developer beta.
Apple skipped iOS 27.1, going directly to “.2,” likely due to it’s upcoming iPhone Duo device having iOS 27.1 installed out of the box. The iOS 27.1 code likely includes multiple references to the device within the code. Since the software will come installed on the Duo, the 27.1 version has likely already gone through beta testing, so Apple forked the code off from this update. Both forks will likely rejoin in iOS 27.3, coming soon to an iPhone near you. Plus, if the iOS 27.1 beta were to have been released today, it could have revealed some iPhone Duo details that were not revealed during Apple’s event.
As of this writing, the following new features have been discovered in the first iOS 27.2 beta:
- Apple’s redesigned Health app, Apple’s developer notes for the feature say the app, while being tested in this beta, won’t be included in iOS 27.2 when it is released to the public. Instead, it will come later in the year. Apple says it will provide AI-powered Insights and Personal Guidance based on your health data, as well as with metrics for Longevity and Health Age.
- Siri AI is available in new languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
- The Apple TV app profiles come to the iOS version of the app. The feature had been limited to tvOS until now.
- A new feature that reminds you it’s your anniversary when you call your significant othe, as long as the date has been entered in the Contacts app.
As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver iPhone or iPad. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
