Can We Expect an Apple Event on October 13?

It’s looking more and more like Apple is planning to hold an event on Tuesday, October 13. Two reliable Apple industry followers have floated that date as when Apple will hold an event where it will unveil new products, and possibly hand out iPhone Duo devices to reviewers.

Earlier this week, Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber said he saw Tuesday, October 13 as a potential date for Apple to hand out its iPhone Duo review units to selected reviewers in person.

Now, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is planning to hold a shindig that same day, where it will unveil its all-new smart home hub, a second-generation HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV 4K model.

In a separate post, Gruber agreed with Gurman, saying that there is “no way” that Apple would unveil the home hub through a press release announcement only, considering what a big deal it is. “If this is coming, it has to be unveiled with a keynote video and some sort of media event with hands-on demos,” he said.

If Gruber is right, that would mean an online-only Apple Event streamed on Apple’s website and YouTube on October 13. Apple would also likely hold a hands-on experience for the media, allowing them to demo the products that were unveiled.

During that same hands-on experience, iPhone Duo review units could be handed out to the anointed, allowing reviewers plenty of time before it launches on Friday, October 23. Apple traditionally hands out review units around a week before a device launches (or so I’m told), so the timing sounds right.

If there is an October 13 event, we can expect Apple to announce sometime next week. We’ll let you know when the announcement comes down the pipe.
