AppleCare+ became available for the first time 15 years ago today, on October 14, 2011. It debuted alongside the iPhone 4S, which is also when Siri first debuted as a feature of the 4S.
AppleCare+ cost $99, covering an Apple device for a two-year term while also adding coverage for two accidental damage incidents, albeit with a $49 service fee for each incident. While it covered damage from drops and liquid contact, it did not cover theft and loss.
The previous $69 AppleCare (no “+”) protection plan in the United States offered hardware repair coverage and technical support for the same two year perios, coverage excluded accidental damage.
AppleCare+ today can be had for several Apple devices, at various prices, and can be subscribed to on a monthly or an annual basis. In recent times, Apple began offering a program called AppleCare One, which covers multiple Apple devices for both individuals and families.
