Apple’s upcoming touchscreen MacBook Pro will boast hinge improvements that are targeted for use in the next iPhone Duo model, claims a known leaker. His comments come just before the new laptop’s expected announcement today.
Leaker “Fixed Focus Digital” posted on Weibo that one of the new MacBook Pro’s key upgrades is the design of its hinge. The improved design is apparently intended to be used for the second- and third-generation iPhone Duo.
The leaker said:
“It seems the focus of the new MacBook is on hinge improvements, which should align with the direction of the second and third generation Duo models. Keep an eye out for it.”
The leaker’s hinge claim jibes with Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman’s saying that Apple has redesigned the mechanism to keep the display steady during touch input, in addiiton to cooling changes to improve airflow through the hinge area.
The leaker also repeated claims that the new MacBook Pro will use a dual-layer OLED display at a substantial higher price. Gurman also reported that Apple was mulling a $2,899 starting price for the 14-inch model with an M5 Pro chip, up $400 from the $2,499 asking price for the existing equivalent.
Apple is expected to unveil the redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models later today, in connection with its “Pro and Tell” media experience that will kick off in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. Pacific Time/1 p.m. Eastern Time.
