Apple will begin mass production of the much-rumored low-cost iPhone as soon as February for a March release, reports Bloomberg.
The device is rumored to be similar in design to the iPhone 8 and is said to feature a 4.7-inch LCD display, a Touch ID button, thick top and bottom bezels, and a single-lens rear camera. While the outside will look a bit old-fashioned, the device is said to be powered by a modern A13 chip and will boast 3GB of RAM.
The new iPhone will be the first low-cost option since the iPhone SE, which has led to many wags calling it the “iPhone SE 2.” However, there has been no official announcement as to the device specs or the name. Some have speculated that it could be called the “iPhone 9,” as that number was skipped, as the naming convention skipped from iPhone 8 to iPhone X a few years back.
The original iPhone SE was priced at an “affordable” level of $399, indicating the new low-cost handset could be priced similarly. The lowest-priced iPhone at the moment is the iPhone 8, which is priced at $449.
While the new low-cost iPhone may debut in March, other 2020 iPhones are expected to be unveiled in the fall of 2020, which is the traditional time for iPhone unveilings.
