Well-Known VPN Provider Announces New Free VPN Service for Apple Users

Well-known VPN service ExpressVPN has announced a new free VPN service for Apple’s mobile devices and computers. EventVPN, which is built on the well-respected ExpressVPN infrastructure, provides free and secure online privacy and security, with none of the usual usage limits or bandwidth limitations. While the free VPN service does have some limitations, it should meet the needs of many VPN users.

Users are allowed to only connect a single device at a time to the provider’s server, and provides access to a smaller network than what is offered by ExpressVPN’s paid service. EventVPN offers access to 35+ locations in several countries, while ExpressVPN provides access to thousands of servers in around 100 countries.

The EventVPN app also offers an in-app connection speed test tool, alongside in-app private browsing with Yahoo, Brave, Baidu, Google, Bing, Ecosia, and DuckDuckGo.

EventVPN uses Apple’s account validation to validate users, issuing anonymous tokens to login to the ExpressVPN infrastructure, eliminating the need to save and store user data.

There is a catch to all of this (there is always a catch with free stuff, right?). EventVPN users must view a 30-second app when connecting or disconnecting from a server or when running a connection speed test. The provider says the advertising works with Apple’s ATT and IDFA systems and use a random identifier.

EventVPN does offer a paid option that has no ads and allows users to connect up to eight devices at once to mo0re than 125 server locations around the globe for $10 per month or $70 annually.

Keep in mind that a paid subscription through EventVPN is not the equivalent of having an ExpressVPN subscription, as it doesn’t offer app support for anything other than Apple devices, and it also lacks certain security features offered by ExpressVPN, like split tunneling.

It should be noted that an EventVPN premium subscription is not the same as an ExpressVPN subscription, as it lacks the ability to use the service on other platforms, like Android, Windows, or Linux. The service also lacks certain advanced privacy features offered by ExpressVPN, like split tunneling.

ExpressVPN says it is offering EventVPN as an alternative to the somewhat sketchy free VPNs that are being offered around the internet. Many free VPNs not only limit your data usage and throttle your bandwidth, they also track your usage so they can sell it to advertisers and other Nosy Nellies willing to pay for it. Some free VPN apps have even been found to include malware.

While other than Proton VPN, I don’t usually recommend free VPNs to my readers. EventVPN could prove to be the exception to the rule.

EventVPN is a free download from the App Store and the Mac App Store.
