Apple will unveil iOS 27 next month at WWDC26, and is expected to release the new software to the public in September. The update is expected to include several new features, including a improved Apple Intelligence features, a new Siri app, and many more.
Now, in the most recent edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has revealed four additional iOS 27 changes, related to AirPods, Genmoji, AirPlay, and Siri.
Gurman expects iOS 27 to include:
- A revamped, better organized AirPods setting menu
- Improved quality for Genmoji and Image Playground creations
- The ability to set AirPlay alternatives such as Google Cast as default (possibly in the European Union only)
- A new dark color scheme for the Siri interface, similar to Apple’s WWDC 2026 graphics
As for the AirPods setting menu changes, Gurman says:
“I don’t anticipate an AirPods app this year, but Apple has heard the feedback, I’m told. The company is revamping the AirPods settings menu to be more functional, better organized and more streamlined. That should mean the earbuds are easier to manage and major feature options are better highlighted. It will be a noticeable change in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.”
Gurman’s sources tell him that Apple’s own models for Genmoji and Image Playground have been improved, so quality is getting a big boost this year.
As for the ability to set AirPlay alternatives, Apple is likely putting that feature into place to satisfy the latest requirements of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act.It will allow outside services — such as Google Cast — to be set by users as the default solution for beaming video, photos and audio from an Apple device to a speaker or TV.
Gurman says the following about the new Siri color scheme:
“The new logo has the same colors that will be present in the animation and surrounding text input fields for Siri in iOS 27. The other thing Apple is doing with its online WWDC materials this year is sticking to a dark theme. That’s because, at least for now, the new Siri interface uses dark colors — without a light-mode option. The Search or Ask bar at the top of iOS 27 will have a dark background with a cursor that blinks in the same colors as the animations in the latest WWDC art.”
Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote begins on Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Mactrast will be covering all of the action, so stay tuned.
