Apple Give Okay to Developers to Submit Their iPhone Duo Apps

Apple has given developers the official okey-dokey to begin submitting their new and updated apps for the new dual-screen iPhone Duo, which will hit customer porches and store shelves on Friday, October 23, 2026. Pre-orders for the foldable device (a first for an iPhone) will begin at 8 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday, October 16.

Developers that can have their iPhone Duo-specific apps ready and waiting in the App Store on release day will definitely have a leg up on developers who are unable to have their apps ready and approved on launch day. Any apps available on that first day will likely benefit from the hullabaloo about the new foldable smartphone, a first for Apple’s iPhone lineup.

This means that developers with an iPhone Dup app that they think is ready for prime time should get their butt in gear and submit the apps for approval as soon as possible. Apple’s mercurial and often frustrating app review process can be a rocky road, meaning developers need to submit as soon as possible if they hope to be present and accounted for in the App Store on iPhone Duo launch day.

Apple tells developers to recompile their existing apps with Xcode 27.1, as it adds development support for the iPhone Duo. Devs should also use Device Hub to “visualize how your apps behave on iPhone Duo across all poses and orientations.”

Developers that are submitting new versions of their apps for the iPhone Duo will be required to submit updated screenshots and updated app preview specifications.

For the first time, Apple warns developers that starting in “April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo.”

The new foldable iPhone Duo, was unveiled on September 9, 2026. The foldable handset, the first iPhone of its kind, has a 5.4-inch outer display when closed, opening up to a 7.6-inch inner display. The new device provides expanded display area for video content, gaming and multitasking. A special nano-texture finish is applied to minimize screen glare. The new A20 Pro powers the iPhone Duo. It is the same chip that powers the already available iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

iPhone Duo pre-orders kick off at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, October 16. Deliveries and in-store availability begin on Friday, October 23, 2026.
