Starting this week, iPhone users still running iOS 26 on their handsets will see iOS 27.0.1 as the headlining software update in the Settings app. Now when an iPhone user still running iOS 26 goes to “General” -> “Software Update” in the Setting app, they’ll see the iOS 27.7.1 update reduced to a smaller “Also Available” section at the bottom of the Software Update screen.
Even though iOS 27 was released on September 14, that update and the later iOS 27.0.1 update were shown under the “Also Available” section, with iOS 26.7 and later iOS 26.7.1 update shown in the most prominent position. By making the above changes in how the updates are listed, Apple is more actively pushing iPhone users who are still on iOS 26 to update to iOS 27.
While Apple is not forcing iPhone users to install iOS 27, they recommend at least installing iOS 26.7.1, in order to receive the latest security fixes.
