Amazon Launches Cloud-Based Music Service For Web & Android

Amazon got in there before Apple by launching their cloud-based music service late on Monday night. The service, only available to US customers and those on Android (and the web), will provide music lovers with 5GB of free online storage with the option of upgrading to a premium account with up to 1000GB storage.

Getting Started at Amazon MP3_ Shop 15 million songs, play your music from the cloud on any Android device, PC, or Mac with Amazon Cloud Drive and Amazon Cloud Player.

When you purchase an MP3 from the Amazon MP3 Store you have the option to save it to your Amazon Cloud Drive. This will save the MP3 to your free 5GB storage. You can also choose to upload your existing music library to your Cloud Drive. Finally, to get the most of your Amazon MP3 experience you can download and install the Amazon MP3 for Android App and enables you to listen to your music library on your mobile device.

The service will also accept music purchased from iTunes meaning that making the transition from iTunes to Amazon MP3 as painless a process as possible.

Rumors have been abound for months that Apple will shortly release their own streaming service using cloud technologies but they have been unable to make the necessary inroads with the major record labels.

At the upcoming WWDC event in June, Apple will be showcasing the future of iOS and Mac OS X where it is expected they will be wowing attendees with demonstrations of their cloud-centric technologies.
