Don’t put that war paint away!

Apple has just dropped the hammer on Google Books and booted the app out of the App Store for not playing by the rules. The Google Books app linked to a source outside of the App Store where customers could purchase new books. This is a violation of Apple’s terms of service for in-app subscriptions.

Apple introduced a ruling that sees 30% of all in-app subscription revenues pocketed by Apple themselves. Apps that availed of in-app subscriptions had until the 30th of June to abide by these rules.

Is this the final chapter in this story or will Google Books turn a new page? Will a revised Google Books app return to the shelves in the App Store? Time will tell.
