Apple Responds to Hack Enabling ‘Free’ in-App Purchases

Following an earlier report that a hacker had managed to circumvent Apple’s in-app purchase system, allowing users to download in-app content without paying, Apple has now begun investigating the matter.

Apple issued the following  statement to The Loop:

“The security of the App Store is incredibly important to us and the developer community,” Apple representative Natalie Harrison, told The Loop. “We take reports of fraudulent activity very seriously and we are investigating.”

As we mentioned in our earlier post on the topic, the hack not only rips off developers and hurts Apple’s developer community – it also puts the information of any users who attempts to use the hack at risk by sharing their iTunes account credentials.

Hopefully Apple will be able to block the hack in the very near future.
