Amazon Reported to be Developing 3D Smartphone and a Streaming Music Player

The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon is developing a number of new hardware products, among them are a 3D smartphone that allows seeing 3D images without special glasses, and an audio-only streaming music player.

The Wall Street Journal, via MacRumors:

One of the devices is a high-end smartphone featuring a screen that allows for 3-D images without glasses, these people said. Using retina-tracking technology, images on the smartphone would seem to float above the screen like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles, they said. Users may be able to navigate through content using just their eyes, two of the people said.

Amazon has been rumored to have been working on a phone for a while, and the recent hiring of former Windows Phone evangelist Charlie Kindel also gave indications that Amazon may be entering the smartphone business soon.

Amazon is also reportedly working on an audio-only streaming music player, with 3G and Wi-Fi built in for streaming music from Amazon’s servers.

We reported last month that Amazon was working to develop a set-top box to compete with the Apple TV, Roku, and other set-top boxes. The box will stream video over the internet via Amazon Prime and Instant video services.
