SimCity for Mac Gets Delayed Until August

EA and Maxis’ new SimCity game has seen mixed success on PCs, after facing server issues that marred the initial launch – and now the Mac version has been delayed from February to this month, and from this month back to August in order to prevent simiar issues from marring the game’s launch on OS X.

From the SimCity blog:

Today we are announcing that we are moving the release date of the Mac version of SimCity to August. We have made this tough decision because we do not believe it is ready for primetime yet. We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time.

The PC version of Sim City launched in March, and although its unclear why the Mac version wasn’t launched concurrently, and unfortunate that Mac gamers will have to now wait even longer, a late incident-free launch is still better than no launch at all.

EA previously promised that purchasing the PC version would get you a free copy of the Mac version once it is finally released. If you haven’t already purchased a copy, you can pick up SimCity (download-only version) for $40 from GameFly.com.
