iPad Users Can Watch Dish Network for Free on Wi-Fi Enabled Southwest Flights

“The captain has signaled that you are now free to use your mobile devices.” The next time you hear those words, or something similar, and you’re on a Wi-Fi enabled Southwest flight, you just may be able to pull up free live TV on your iPad, thanks to Dish Network.

'TV Flies Free' on Southwest Airlines Compliments of DISH

CNET

The carrier and Dish have joined up to offer passengers access to live TV and up to 75 on-demand shows on the airline’s more than 400 Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft.

Dish’s competitor DirecTV has long had a partnership with JetBlue, providing its own satellite service in seat backs. JetBlue has also said it would launch fast free in-flight Wi-Fi this year.

While Dish specifically mentions the iPad, (It could have something to do with their current free iPad with subscription offer), a spokesperson said the service is available on most Wi-Fi enabled devices with web browsers, so Android and Windows devices should be good to go.

In order to kickoff the partnership, Dish brought the “Boston Guys” from it’s television and radio ads to hand out free iPads to passengers onboard one of Southwest’s flights. There was no word on whether the Grandpa character brought along his baseball bat to settle any seating disputes.
