Chevron Says They’ll Support Apple Pay at the Pump in Early 2015 (Updated)

Major oil company Chevron has tweeted that they’ll be supporting Apple Pay at their gas pumps sometime in early 2015. The tweet from earlier today says the company is working with Apple to bring the mobile payment solution to its pumps in 2015:

Chevron already supports Apple Pay at the in-store cash register at its Chevron and Texaco gas stations, however has yet to introduce pay at the pump with Apple Pay. Chevron was an original Apple Pay partner, and was listed as a supporter on the service’s October 20 launch date.

As the only gas stations currently accepting Apple Pay, Chevron and Texaco have gained a competitive advantage over oil companies who have yet to offer Apple Pay at their stations.

Apple Pay

Apple Pay hit the ground running in the U.S. back in October, as it quickly grabbed 1% of all digital payment dollars in the month of November. While Apple Pay is currently only available in the United States, the company has plans to expand to other countries in 2015.

UPDATE: 12/30/14 – Chevron later tweeted that there is no set timeline for having Apple Pay at their pumps, merely that “To clarify, Chevron is working alongside Apple to integrate Apple Pay at the pump, but a timeline is not set.”
