The new Apple TV – Due to Hit Shelves in October

MacRumors:

Following last week’s “Hey Siri” media event, Apple gave developers an opportunity to sign up for a lottery for an Apple TV Developer Kit, which ended today. Developers who won the lottery are now receiving invitations allowing them to purchase an Apple TV kit, and the first Apple TVs could be in developer hands by the end of this week.

Although the new Apple TV won’t hit shelves until October, Apple wants to make a limited amount of development units eligible to developers so they can begin developing and testing apps for the new set top box’s tvOS App Store.

Developers who were selected in the lottery have until this Wednesday, September 16 to order their unit. The kits will begin shipping out one to three days after that date. The Developer Kits will cost developers a mere $1 fee charged to their credit card, in order to verify billing and shipping addresses.

While developers need to agree to a non-disclosure agreement, we’re sure to see more details about the new device begin to leak, once the device is in the dev’s hot little hands. We’ll definitely begin to get some peeks at various apps that will be showing up in the new App Store come October.
