Steve Jobs Hid iPad Development From Google’s Eirc Schmidt

Steve Jobs was so furious when he saw Android’s “pinch to zoom” features during a trip to Google headquarters, he hid Apple’s iPad development from Google CEO Eric Schmidt – even though Schmidt was on the board of directors at the time – Excerpt from Steven Levy’s In the Plex.

Steve Levy will soon publish a “warts in all” book about the rocky relationship between Apple and Google, and specifically the battles between CEO’s Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt.

Jobs was upset because he felt Google were ripping off the iPhone’s best features and incorporating them into their Android platform. Jobs felt he could no longer trust Schmidt, who held a seat on Apple’s board of directors, with details of Apple’s innovations in technology. Schmidt stood down from his position on Apple’s board and 6 months later Apple released the iPad.

I have a sneaky suspicion that “In The Plex” will feature many more revelations such as the one above.

The book is available for pre-order from Amazon and includes Jobs referring to Google’s “Don’t Be Evil” motto as “Bullshit”.
