Acer: iPad And MacBook Air Are Nothing But A Passing Fad

As part of a publicity stunt, Acer founder Stan Shih attempted to ignite controversy by claiming that both the iPad (and the entire tablet market) and the thin-and-light computer market are nothing more than a passing fad.

Apparently, Shih thinks that the “real” computer market is still traditional desktop and laptop PCs. Whether or not Shih actually believes this nonsense, I can’t help but think that this is Acer’s way of trying to console themselves after utterly failing in the tablet market and failing to produce a popular thin-and-light notebook.

Judging by Apple impressive continuing sales of the iPad 2, and the ever-growing sales figures that Apple has been seeing from the MacBook Air for nearly the past 3 years (since its 2008 introduction), tablets and light, portable notebooks aren’t going to go anywhere any time soon.

Hey Mr. Shih – why don’t you spend less time whining about your failure and more time actually trying to innovate and compete?
