Apple Expected To Release iMac For Under $1,000 In Coming Weeks

Apple Expected To Release iMac For Under $1,000 In Coming Weeks

Expect to see a new iMac in the coming weeks that is priced under the $1,000 mark. That’s according to a tip off received by 9to5Mac that predicts the release of an educational / volume iMac later this August.

This iMac would of course pack less of a punch than the current entry level iMac and will be priced accordingly. It is expected that the spec will consist of a 3.1GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, and 257MB AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics.

The current entry level iMac is priced at $1,199 and packs a 2.5GHz quad-core i5 processor, 4GBs of RAM, 500GB HD, and 512MB AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics card.

While a sub $1,000 iMac is a welcome addition for those on a tight budget, it would have to come in at approximately $850 for it to be a worthwhile purchase.

How else could you justify buying an iMac with half the performance / storage of the current entry level iMac for just under $1,000 when you can spend $119 more to get the fuller iMac experience?

It remains to be seen if the spec of this soon to be released iMac can be updated, but one would imagine that there will no restrictions on upgrading the RAM and HD.
