QuickPick for iOS Lets You Add Custom Shortcuts to Notification Center

*Update 12/20/2011 Apple has now pulled this app from the App Store.

Although iOS 5’s Notification Center is certainly handy for keeping track of recent notifications, the new feature isn’t very customizable, and doesn’t support any third-party widgets.

A new app called Quickpick (free, App Store link) seeks to change all that by allowing you to create shortcuts to perform various tasks on your iOS device, and constantly keeping them at the top of the iOS Notification Center.

Setting up your shortcuts with Quickpick is a snap – a simple matter of opening the app’s composer and tapping in a few desired options. You’ll be set up with custom shortcuts to do all sorts of things in no time flat.

This can be used for quickly opening an email, SMS or iMessage to a specific person, dial someone you frequently call, open a frequently used website and more.

The app relies on iPhone URL schemes to perform each task, so you may want to check out URL scheme databases such as at AKOSMA or HandleOpenURL to help you make the most of it.

Quickpick may be one of the handiest utilities I’ve ever seen for iOS, and is available immediately on the App Store for just $0.99 (App Store link).
