How to: Mac App Store – Find Compatible Apps For A File Extension

In the Mac App Store you can use a very handy feature which allows you to take an extension such as .jpg, .doc, .xls etc and find an application which can you can use to open and edit the associated file type.

In order to do this all you need to do is launch the Mac App Store and in the search bar type .jpg

Typing jpg will also work in the same manner.

Likewise, if you are looking for a compatible program to open a .doc file then simply replace the jpg with doc.

It should be noted that there is no guarantee that the applications presented by the search will be capable of opening, importing, or editing your specific document. The search functionality simply picks up apps which mention jpg, for example, in their heading or main body of content.
