Mountain Lion Hits 3 Million Downloads in 4 Days: Most Successful OS X Launch Ever!

Apple’s latest operating system, OS X Mountain Lion, managed to rack up over 3 million downloads in its first four days of availability, far out-shadowing OS X Lion to become the most successful launch of OS X ever.

 From Apple’s press release:

Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

By contrast, OS X Lion, launched last July, raked in a million downloads on its first day, but didn’t hit 6 million downloads until 76 days later. Mountain Lion is well on its way to significantly beating that record.
