Google Releases New YouTube App for iPhone

Following Apple’s decision to remove YouTube as a default app in iOS 6, Google today launched an all-new YouTube app for iPhone and iPod touch to fill the gap.

 From the YouTube blog:

For all you diehard YouTube fans out there who can’t get enough YouTube on your mobile, we’ve got some great news: starting today, you can download the official YouTube app for iPhone and iPod touch from the App Store, bringing you more of the videos you love and more ways to share them with the people you care about.

The app features a number of improvements over the Apple version, such as access to more videos, social media sharing, search suggestions, the ability to browse additional videos without interrupting the video you’re currently watching, and more.

The new features come with a trade-off, however – there’s currently no dedicated iPad version of the app, and the new version now supports ads during video playback (one of the reasons it has access to more videos). An iPad version is in the works for later release, however.

The new YouTube app is available now as a free download from the app Store.
