Apple Increases Vapor Chamber Orders for First Round of Foldable iPhones

Apple has increased the orders for vapor chamber cooling components destined for use in its upcoming foldable iPhone, as well as its 20th-anniversary iPhone models, claims the Chinese leaker known as “Fix Focus Digital.” The leaker posted on Weibo to say the increased order volume will first support the manufacture of Apple’s book-style foldable iPhone, which is expected to debut in September.

Apple has reportedly asked suppliers to produce approximately 10 million foldable iPhones in 2026, up from an initial forecast of seven to eight million units. It’s quite possible that the foldable design Apple is adopting could pose unique cooling challenges, due to its thinner internal structure and limited space for heat dissipation.

Apple introduced vapor chamber cooling to the iPhone lineup with last year’s iPhone 17 Pro. Vapor chamber is a liquid-cooling system that helps avoid throttling caused by the heat generated by the smartphones’ powerful chips.

Next year’s 20th-anniversary iPhone will reportedly boast an edge-to-edge display with glass that curves around all four sides. The lack of a complete metal enclosure could mean that it too will require a more advanced cooling system.
