Apple Reported to be Making Changes to Their Upcoming Austin Campus

The construction of Apple’s $304 million Austin, TX campus is underway, and a website has reportedly come across new plans for the site, revealing additional details about the project’s layout.

AppleInsider:

According to a rendering of the campus acquired by local condo website AustinTowers, Apple has made a number of adjustments from the original layout created by the development company in charge designing the Riata Vista Circle property.

Two of Apple’s planned seven buildings are currently under construction as part of the project’s estimated $56 million first phase. The initial construction is said to cover 200,000 square feet, with the five additional structures combining to cover around one million square feet.

Details also include the replacement of surface parking areas with three garages capable of parking 5,500 vehicles. The website claims Apple is making use of a so-called “Fast Track” permit to allow having at least one of the garages ready for parking in time for the opening of the first building.

The changes also include replacing traditional driveways with pedestrian courts and walkways, reducing the needed amount of concrete and asphalt from 80 percent impervious cover (meaning 80 percent of the ground was going to be covered by concrete or asphalt) to about 55 percent.

Austin Towers also reports some good news for the area’s ecological balance:

We’re glad to learn that Apple’s plan will retain all the large trees (aka. Heritage Trees), including some that had previously been approved to be removed.

Construction of the campus is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021. It is estimated the new facility will create 3,600 jobs for the area, more than doubling Apple’s existing workforce in the area.
