iOS 7 Said to Include Calendar and Mail App Revamps

It’s been reported the iOS 7 will see a significant interface overhaul under the steady hand of Jony Ive. The redesign is also said to be bringing new looks to the native iOS Calendar and Mail apps on the iPhone and iPad.

Bloomberg:

Ive, 46, has begun revamping iPhone and iPad applications, shunning realistic images, such as wood bookshelves for the Newsstand feature, and he’s exploring more dramatic changes to the e-mail and calendar tools, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private.

Ive is also said to be methodically reviewing new designs, in an attempt to avoid a repeat of last year’s release of map tools that weren’t quite ready for prime time, and were widely panned. Ive is also encouraging collaboration between the software and hardware divisions, which operated in separate camps under co-founder Steve Jobs, people said.

Apple has said it will be showcasing the next major version of iOS 7 and OS X at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled for June 10 through 14. Tickets for this year’s conference sold out in a matter of seconds.
