Owners of Apple’s Newest MacBook Pros Report Keyboard and Trackpad Lockups

Owners of Apple’s newest Haswell-based MacBook Pros are reporting repeated keyboard and trackpad freezing that in most cases can only be remedied with a hard reset of the computer.

AppleInsider:

The largest thread related to the issue features more than 250 replies spanning 17 pages. Users have reported seeing the problem with every hardware configuration of the slim notebooks, with both 13- and 15-inch models seemingly equally affected.

In the thread, now up to 19 pages at the time of this post, users are reporting that a hard system reset is usually the only remedy when the system freezes. However, a limited number of users report that cycling sleep mode by closing the lid and then reopening it can bring the input devices back to life.

While a conflict between the new machines and Apple’s recently released OS X Mavericks operating system has not been ruled out, owners of the previous-generation MacBook Pros with a Retina display are not reporting similar issues.

Apple released the updated Retina display MacBook Pro’s last week, making the move from Intel’s Ivy Bridge platform to the new Haswell-based platform.
