Rumor: March Will Bring Update for Apple TV – Games, Bluetooth Controller Support

iLounge says a “reliable source” has informed them that the Apple TV will be getting gaming and Bluetooth controller support in March, or maybe even earlier.

Apple TV

iLounge:

We’ve heard that developers are currently working on Bluetooth controller options, and it’s expected that games could be downloaded directly to the Apple TV rather than relying on another iOS device as an intermediary. One developer has suggested that game support could be backward-compatible with the current-generation Apple TV.

No word on whether this will just be an update to the current version of the little black box that could, or if there will be a new device released. It’s possible the current Apple TV, which has no long-term storage – its 8GB of memory is used for buffering and short term storage of video and other content – could use iCloud for storage of games and possibly other apps.

We’ve been wanting something like this for years on our favorite streaming box, so we’ll be keeping our fingers and toes crossed, hoping this rumor is one that comes to fruition.
